2:30 PM - 4:00 PM Steele - Historic Calligraphy with Wynn Yarrow

Historic Calligraphy: An overview of what calligraphy is, how various world cultures have approached calligraphy, and the tools used through time. Students will work hands-on, sampling a variety of reproduction historic tools.

Free and open to adults, teens, and kids (upper elementary).

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.
Steele TEEN: TAG (teen advisory group) meeting


7th to 12th graders!  Need volunteer hours?  Want to (politely) boss adults around? (in other words: help plan and run fun teen events YOU want to have in the teen space? )


You can create displays, decorate the teen area, suggest books and manga for us to order, help set up and clean up for after hours events, and more! 
We have fun, eat snacks, and sometimes help out at community library events!

We need YOU to make your teen space reflect your interests and needs!

6:30 PM-7:00 PM Horseheads - Pajama Story Time

Wear your Favorite PJs, bring your stuffed animal, blanket and pillow, and settle in for some bedtime stories, songs, and a craft.  Wednesday Nights starting in September from 6:30pm-7:00pm at Horseheads Free Library.


10:30 AM-11:15 AM West Elmira Library Learners (Homeschool Group)

Join other home schooling families and explore a new topic every week with relevant books and activities!

This program is geared for students ages 5-11. All materials are provided.


3:30 PM-4:30 PM Steele Kids - T(W)een Theater Day with Performer Tim Collins!

Join performer Tim Collins for a one day theater program series! You can attend one or all.
Ages 8-12 will learn theater games and improv from Tim. Very interactive!

Children's Area. We will meet upstairs in the Teen Room once our Children's Room construction begins.

* Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver aged 16 or older at all times in all Chemung County Libraries.

YOGA with Tammy Wilcox

Join Tammy Wilcox for this YOGA exercise class.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and a yoga mat will be needed for this class. Some exercises are done from the floor.

3:30 PM-5:30 PM West Elmira - Knit and Crochet Club

Join our group at West Elmira twice a month to share, chat, and learn about knit and crochet crafts!  All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend.  We meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month.

Bring your own project or lend a hand in making a library group project.  Our first group project will be a Crochet Puff Quilt to be used as a prize at a future library program!



5:30 PM-6:30 PM Steele Teen Creative Writing


Teens experience fun writing prompts, create characters, and stories or a play based on their own interests.  All levels of ability and writing interests welcome!  Group facilitated by writer/actor/educator Tim Collins. https://www.timcollinsonline.com/

Join nationally touring actor and educator Tim Collins for an evening of fun, no-pressure improv games and activities! You'll connect with others, hone your comedic timing, and learn techniques to eliminate stage fright and become more effective at public speaking. Ideal for beginners and those with acting/improv experience. Adults and older teens (ages 16+) welcome.
